Biography
Sharon Lewis, also credited as Sharon M. Lewis, is a Canadian director, screenwriter and former actor from Toronto, Ontario. She studied political science at the University of Toronto and began her career in theatre, co-writing the play Sistahs (1994) and co-founding Sugar & Spice Productions.
Lewis transitioned from acting and television presenting, including hosting counterSpin and ZeD on CBC, to directing. Her feature directorial debut was the Afro-futurist film Brown Girl Begins (2017). She has directed episodes of numerous series, including Law & Order (1990), Law & Order: Organized Crime, Chicago Med, FBI: Most Wanted, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent.
Her work has earned a Canadian Screen Award for Best Direction of a Factual Series in 2021, along with multiple CSA nominations as a director and showrunner.
