Biography

Shelley Malil is an Indian-American actor. Born in Kerala, India, in 1964, he emigrated to the United States with his family in 1974. He trained at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York and moved to Hollywood in 1995.

Malil had supporting roles in films including My Favorite Martian (1999), Collateral Damage (2002), Holes (2003) and The 40-Year-Old Virgin (2005), in which he played Haziz. His television appearances include episodes of ER (1994), Seinfeld (1989), The West Wing (1999) and Scrubs (2001). He received a Clio Award for Budweiser commercials and a Los Angeles Ovation Award for his performance as Bottom in A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Malil's acting career spanned 1994 to 2010. In 2010 he was convicted of attempted premeditated murder and assault with a deadly weapon and sentenced to life imprisonment with the possibility of parole; he was released in 2018.
