Biography
Sophie Marceau is a French actress. Born Sophie Danièle Sylvie Maupu in Paris on 17 November 1966, she made her screen debut in the teenage comedy La Boum (1980) and its sequel La Boum 2 (1982). She received the César Award for Most Promising Actress for the latter.
Marceau became a star in Europe with roles in films such as L'Étudiante (1988), Fanfan (1993) and Revenge of the Musketeers (1994). She achieved international recognition playing Princess Isabelle in Braveheart (1995) and Elektra King in the James Bond film The World Is Not Enough (1999). Other credits include Firelight (1997) and Anna Karenina (1997).
In 2003 she was appointed Officer of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.
