Biography
Spalding Gray (1941–2004) was an American actor and writer. He performed autobiographical monologues on stage from the 1970s onwards and adapted several for film, including Swimming to Cambodia (1987), directed by Jonathan Demme, Monster in a Box (1991) and Gray's Anatomy (1996).
As an actor he appeared in films such as The Killing Fields (1984), Beaches (1988), The Paper (1994) and King of the Hill (1993), in which he played Mr. Mungo. He also had television roles including in The Nanny. Gray trained at Emerson College and began in experimental theatre with the Wooster Group in New York.
