Biography

Stephen Elliott (1918–2005) was an American actor whose career spanned theatre, film and television. He studied acting with Sanford Meisner at New York's Neighborhood Playhouse from 1940 to 1942 and made his Broadway debut in 1945 in The Tempest. He received a Drama Desk Award for A Whistle in the Dark (1969) and a Tony Award nomination for Marat/Sade (1967).

Elliott appeared in films including Death Wish (1974) as Police Commissioner, Arthur (1981) as Burt Johnson and Beverly Hills Cop (1984) as Chief Hubbard. His television credits include roles in Columbo, Dallas, Falcon Crest, Law & Order and Chicago Hope. He continued working into the 1990s.
