Biography
Stephen Phelps is an American production designer. He is known for his work on the film Anora (2024), directed by Sean Baker.
Originally from South Glens Falls, New York, Phelps attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). He began making experimental short films and music videos as a child with his brothers and friends. For around 15 years he has worked in the art department on independent films with small budgets, initially as a property master on titles including Good Time (2017) and It Comes at Night (2017).
On Anora he collaborated with his brother Christopher Phelps, who served as set decorator, and art director Ryan Fitzgerald. He has also worked as production designer on Notice to Quit (2024) and Splitsville (2025).
