Biography
Steve Dodd (1 June 1928 – 10 November 2014) was an Aboriginal Australian actor. An Arrernte man from central Australia, he began his working life as a stockman and rodeo rider before entering film in the mid-1940s, when Chips Rafferty noticed him on the set of The Overlanders (1946).
His career was interrupted by service in the Korean War. Dodd appeared in numerous Australian films and television series over seven decades, including Bitter Springs (1950), Gallipoli (1981) as Billy Snakeskin, The Chant of Jimmie Blacksmith (1978) as Tabidgi, Quigley Down Under (1990) as Kunkurra, and The Matrix (1999) as the Blind Man. He received the Jimmy Little Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2013 Deadly Awards.
