Biography
Stuart Heisler (1896–1979) was an American film and television director and editor. He began his career as a prop man and worked as a motion picture editor from 1921 to 1936, with credits including Peter Ibbetson (1935).
He directed his first feature in 1936 and later helmed films such as The Glass Key (1942), Storm Warning (1951) and The Star (1952). He also directed episodes of the television series Gunsmoke (1955) and Rawhide (1959).
Heisler directed the 1944 propaganda film The Negro Soldier. He received an Academy Award nomination in 1949 for his contribution to the visual effects of Tulsa.
