Biography
Sully Boyar (born Irving Boyar, 14 December 1923 – 23 March 2001) was an American character actor of stage, film and television. Raised in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, he was one of seven children in a Russian-Jewish family and worked as a lawyer before taking acting classes in his early forties. He was a life member of the Actors Studio and began his career in off-Broadway and experimental theatre.
Boyar appeared in numerous films, including The Panic in Needle Park (1971), The Gambler (1974), Dog Day Afternoon (1975) as bank manager Mulvaney, Car Wash (1976), The Entity (1982), Prizzi's Honor (1985), Best Seller (1987) and In the Soup (1992). On television he had recurring roles as judges in Law & Order and The Equalizer, and appeared in The Sopranos (2001) as Dr Krakower. He also performed on Broadway in the 1977 revival of The Basic Training of Pavlo Hummel.
Boyar died of a heart attack on 23 March 2001 while waiting for a bus in Queens, New York.
