Biography
Sydney Tafler (31 July 1916 – 8 November 1979) was an English actor. After training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, he made his West End stage debut in 1936 and appeared in Shakespearean roles with the Old Vic company from 1943 to 1946.
He worked extensively in film and television from the 1940s to the 1970s, often in character parts. His credits include It Always Rains on Sunday (1947), Passport to Pimlico (1949), The Lavender Hill Mob (1951), Alfie (1966), Carry On Regardless (1961) and The Spy Who Loved Me (1977). On television he appeared in Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em (1973) and Alexander the Greatest (1971–1972). He was married to the actress Joy Shelton and was the brother-in-law of film director Lewis Gilbert.
