Biography
Takis Emmanuel (also credited as Takis Emmanouil) was a Greek actor who appeared in Greek and international films from the 1960s onwards. He was born in 1933 in Messolonghi, Greece, and trained at the Drama School of the Athens Conservatory under Dimitris Rontiris. He made his stage debut in 1960 in Euripides' Iphigenia in Tauris at the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus and his film debut the same year in The River.
Emmanuel is known for his role as Manolakas in Zorba the Greek (1964), as well as appearances in Once Upon a Time in the West (1968), The Golden Voyage of Sinbad (1973), Play Dirty (1969) and Lion of the Desert (1981). He worked in Europe, the United States, the United Kingdom, Italy and Australia, where he collaborated with director Paul Cox on films including Caddie (1976) and Kostas (1979). He later returned to Greece, established a production company and turned to writing.
