Biography
Tanya Hamilton is an American film and television director and producer. She was born in Spanish Town, Jamaica, and moved to the United States at the age of eight, settling in Maryland. She trained at the Duke Ellington School of the Arts, Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, and Columbia University.
Hamilton's early work includes the short film The Killers (1995). Her feature debut Night Catches Us (2010), which she also wrote, centres on former Black Panthers in 1970s Philadelphia and earned her a Black Reel Award nomination for best director. She has since directed episodes of numerous series, including The Vampire Diaries (2009), Queen Sugar (2016), The Deuce (2017), Snowfall (2017), Black Lightning (2018), Seven Seconds (2018), Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty (2022), Get Millie Black (2024), Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist (2024), Boots (2025) and Dope Thief (2025), on which she also serves as an executive producer.
