Biography
Tarō Ishida, born Gentarō Ishida, was a Japanese actor and voice actor. He was born in Kyoto on 16 March 1944, the son of actor Shigeki Ishida. He attended the Spanish department of Sophia University but left without graduating. He was also a Shin Buddhist priest and served as chief priest at Jōkei-ji temple in Kanazawa, Ishikawa.
Ishida voiced Count Cagliostro in Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro (1979), Colonel Shikishima in Akira (1988), Duke Red in Metropolis (2001), and the narrator in Fist of the North Star (1986). His live-action film roles included Detective Tashiro in Violent Cop (1989), Sonezaki in Departures (2008), and appearances in One Million Yen Girl (2008). He was married to actress Fusako Tachibana until her death in 2006. He died on 21 September 2013 in Sagamihara, Kanagawa.
