Biography
Thomas Jefferson Byrd (25 June 1950 – 3 October 2020) was an American actor. Born in Griffin, Georgia, he earned a B.S. in education from Morris Brown College and an M.F.A. in modern dance from the California Institute of the Arts. He began his screen career in the mid-1990s and appeared in several films directed by Spike Lee.
Byrd's film credits include Clockers (1995) as Errol Barnes, He Got Game (1998), Bamboozled (2000), Ray (2004), Brooklyn's Finest (2010) and Chi-Raq (2015). On stage he received a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Play for the 2003 Broadway revival of Ma Rainey's Black Bottom.
