Biography

Til Schweiger is a German actor and filmmaker. Born on 19 December 1963 in Freiburg im Breisgau, he trained at the Schauspielschule Der Keller in Cologne after briefly studying German and medicine.

He first came to prominence in German cinema in the 1990s with leading roles in Manta, Manta (1991) and Der bewegte Mann (1994), and as producer and co-writer of Knockin' on Heaven's Door (1997). He founded the production company Barefoot Films in Berlin.

Internationally, Schweiger has appeared in films including Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life (2003), King Arthur (2004), Inglourious Basterds (2009) as Sgt. Hugo Stiglitz, and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare (2024) as Heinrich Luhr. He has also directed and starred in several commercially successful German productions.
