Biography
Tom Brown (born Thomas Edward Brown) was an American actor and child model. Born in New York City, he began modelling at the age of two, appearing in national advertising campaigns. He was educated at the New York Professional Children's School and made his film debut in 1924.
Brown appeared in numerous films during the 1930s, including Anne of Green Gables (1934) as Gilbert Blythe and In Old Chicago (1938) as Bob O'Leary. He also starred in the serial The Adventures of Smilin' Jack (1943). His later film credits include Merrily We Live (1938).
During the Second World War he served in the United States Army, rising to the rank of lieutenant and receiving a French Croix de Guerre and Bronze Star Medal; he later served in the Korean War. Brown appeared frequently on television, with recurring roles in Gunsmoke (as Ed O'Connor) and Mr. Lucky. He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960.
