Biography
Lamar Trotti was an American screenwriter and producer. Born in Atlanta, Georgia, on 18 October 1900, he began his career as a journalist, becoming the first graduate of the University of Georgia’s Henry W. Grady School of Journalism in 1921 and later city editor of the Atlanta Georgian.
In 1933 he joined Fox Film Corporation and remained with the studio after its merger to form 20th Century Fox. He wrote or co-wrote around fifty films for the company, including In Old Chicago (1938), Young Mr. Lincoln (1939), Drums Along the Mohawk (1939), The Ox-Bow Incident (1943) and Wilson (1944). He also produced several of his later scripts.
Trotti won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for Wilson in 1944 and received further nominations for Young Mr. Lincoln and There’s No Business Like Show Business (1952). He died of a heart attack on 28 August 1952.
