Biography

Trey Edward Shults is an American film director, writer and producer. Born on 6 October 1988, he began his career with short films including Mother and Son (2010) and Two to One (2011). He interned on three Terrence Malick productions before directing the short Krisha (2014), which he expanded into his feature debut of the same name (2015).

Shults is known for the films It Comes at Night (2017), Waves (2019) and Hurry Up Tomorrow (2025), on which he also served as writer and editor. He has directed an episode of the Apple TV+ series Cape Fear (2026) and an episode of Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty (2022).

Several of his early works feature members of his family, including his aunt Krisha Fairchild.
