Biography

Vanessa Brown (born Smylla Brind, 24 March 1928 – 21 May 1999) was an Austrian-born American actress who worked in radio, film, theatre and television. She made her Broadway debut as a child in Watch on the Rhine (1941) and appeared as a panelist on the radio programme Quiz Kids.

Brown’s film career began in 1944 with Youth Runs Wild. She appeared in The Ghost and Mrs. Muir (1947), The Heiress (1949) as Maria, Tarzan and the Slave Girl (1950) and The Bad and the Beautiful (1952). On stage she starred in the Broadway production of The Seven Year Itch (1952). Later credits include episodes of Perry Mason, Murder, She Wrote and The Wonder Years.

She also wrote plays, a novel and non-fiction, and died in Los Angeles.
