Biography
Virginia Bruce (born Helen Virginia Briggs) was an American actress and singer. She made her screen debut in an uncredited role as a lady-in-waiting in the 1929 musical The Love Parade.
She appeared on Broadway in the musicals Smiles (1930) and America's Sweetheart (1931) before returning to Hollywood. Bruce is known for roles in The Great Ziegfeld (1936), in which she introduced the Cole Porter song "I've Got You Under My Skin" in Born to Dance (1936), The Invisible Woman (1940) and Night Has a Thousand Eyes (1948). She also appeared in Strangers When We Meet (1960). She performed on radio, including the CBS series Make Believe Town in 1949. Bruce was married to actors and directors John Gilbert, J. Walter Ruben and Ali Ipar.
