Biography
W.C. Fields was an American actor and screenwriter, born William Claude Dukenfield on 29 January 1880 in Darby, Pennsylvania. He began his career in vaudeville as a juggler and comedian, appearing in the Ziegfeld Follies from 1915 to 1921 before transitioning to film.
Fields is known for his comic roles in sound films, including Harold Bissonette in It's a Gift (1934), for which he also contributed the story under the pseudonym Charles Bogle. Other notable credits include Wilkins Micawber in David Copperfield (1935), the title role and screenplay in The Bank Dick (1940), and Egbert Sousé in the same film. He died on 25 December 1946 in Pasadena, California.
