Biography

Ward Russell is an American cinematographer and photographer. He studied scenic design at the University of Kansas and began working in film in 1977, initially in lighting and electrical roles.

He collaborated frequently with director Tony Scott, serving as chief lighting technician on Top Gun (1986), Beverly Hills Cop II (1987) and Revenge (1990). Russell worked as director of photography on Days of Thunder (1990) and The Last Boy Scout (1991), as well as The X-Files (1998), Lawnmower Man 2: Beyond Cyberspace (1996) and Unstoppable (2004). He was active until 2007 and later turned to still photography, based in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Russell is married to film production coordinator Mary Cay Hollander.
