Biography
Werner Klemperer (22 March 1920 – 6 December 2000) was an American actor. Born in Cologne, Germany, to conductor Otto Klemperer and soprano Johanna Geisler, he fled Nazi Germany with his family in 1933 and settled in the United States. He served in the US Army during the Second World War and began his acting career on the Broadway stage in 1947.
Klemperer appeared in films including The Wrong Man (1956), Houseboat (1958) and Judgment at Nuremberg (1961), in which he played Emil Hahn. He was best known for portraying Colonel Wilhelm Klink in the television series Hogan's Heroes (1965–1971), a role for which he received five consecutive Emmy nominations and won the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series in 1968 and 1969. He also worked as a narrator and performer with orchestras later in his career.
