Biography
William Gaminara is a British actor, screenwriter and playwright. Born in 1956 in Lusaka, Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia), he was educated at Winchester College and Lincoln College, Oxford. He began his career with a role in the 1986 film Comrades and has worked extensively in television, radio and theatre.
Gaminara is best known for playing Professor Leo Dalton in the BBC series Silent Witness from 2002 to 2013, reprising the role in 2017. His other television credits include Dr Andrew Bower in Casualty and appearances in Death in Paradise, Father Brown and The Alienist. On radio he has played Dr Richard Locke in The Archers.
As a writer, Gaminara contributed episodes to This Life (1997) and The Lakes (1999), and adapted the novel Ella and the Mothers for television (2002). His plays include According to Hoyle (1995), The Three Lions and The Nightingales. He is married to actress Kate Lock.
