Biography
Yūnosuke Itō (also credited as Yûnosuke Itô) was a Japanese film actor. Born in Tokyo on 3 August 1919, he made his film debut at Toho in 1946 and appeared in more than ninety films until 1979. He was the son of kabuki actor Sawamura Sōnosuke and brother of actor Sōnosuke Sawamura.
Itō was known for supporting roles in several films directed by Akira Kurosawa, including the novelist in Ikiru (1952), Mutsuta in Sanjuro (1962) and Baba, a National Shoes executive, in High and Low (1963). Other notable appearances include Stray Dog (1949), Giants and Toys (1958), The Ballad of Narayama (1958), Samurai Assassin (1965) and Lone Wolf and Cub: Sword of Vengeance (1972). He received the Blue Ribbon Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1962.
