Biography
Zakir Hussain (also credited as Zakir Hussain Qureshi) was an Indian tabla player, composer and percussionist. Born in Mumbai on 9 March 1951, he was the son of tabla player Alla Rakha. He died in San Francisco on 15 December 2024.
Hussain contributed to film soundtracks including Apocalypse Now (1979) and composed for Heat and Dust (1983), in which he also acted. He appeared as Tabla Maestro in Monkey Man (2024) and provided music for the film. He received the Padma Vibhushan and won four Grammy Awards.
