Biography
Zhao Jiping is a Chinese composer. He studied composition at the Xi’an Conservatory of Music, graduating in 1970, and later undertook postgraduate work at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing.
He is best known for his film scores for directors of the Fifth Generation of Chinese cinema, including Zhang Yimou and Chen Kaige. His credits include the music for Yellow Earth (1984), Red Sorghum (1988), Ju Dou (1990), Raise the Red Lantern (1991), Farewell My Concubine (1993) and To Live (1994).
Zhao has also composed for the concert stage and held positions including Honorary Chairman of the Chinese Musicians’ Association. He is the son of painter Zhao Wangyun.
