Biography
Alan Williams (born 1954) is a British actor and playwright. Originally from Manchester and educated at The Manchester Grammar School, he received the bulk of his training as an apprentice with the Hull Truck Theatre. He performed his Cockroach trilogy of one-man plays at the Bush Theatre in London and subsequently in Toronto, where he became playwright in residence at the Tarragon Theatre and later a theatre professor at the University of Winnipeg.
Williams returned to England after appearing in the 1996 film adaptation of The Cockroach that Ate Cincinnati, for which he received a Genie Award nomination for Best Actor. His screen credits include roles in Vera Drake (2004), The Life and Death of Peter Sellers (2004), London Boulevard (2010), Trespass Against Us (2016) and Peterloo (2018). On television he has appeared in The Crown (2016), Luther (2010), Utopia (2013), The Capture (2019), Inside Man (2022) and Chernobyl (2019) as KGB Deputy Chairman Viktor Charkov.
