Biography
Amy Aniobi is an American writer, producer and director. Born on 28 August 1984 in North Texas, she is the daughter of Nigerian immigrants. She graduated from Stanford University with a BA in American Studies and later earned an MFA in screenwriting from UCLA.
Aniobi is a long-time collaborator of Issa Rae. She wrote for Rae's web series The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl and worked as a writer, co-executive producer and director on the HBO series Insecure (2016–2021), where she served as head writer. She also wrote for Silicon Valley (2014) and was showrunner for season one of 2 Dope Queens. She signed a two-year overall deal with HBO in 2019. Other credits include showrunning and directing on Survival of the Thickest (2023).
Aniobi founded the production company SuperSpecial and the mentoring programme TRIBE. She has received nominations for Primetime Emmy Awards, Writers Guild of America Awards and NAACP Image Awards.
