Biography
Autumn Durald Arkapaw is an American cinematographer. Born Autumn Cheyenne Durald on 14 December 1979 in Oxnard, California, she studied art history at Loyola Marymount University and cinematography at the American Film Institute Conservatory. She is a member of the American Society of Cinematographers.
Arkapaw has worked as director of photography on films including Palo Alto (2014), Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022) and The Last Showgirl (2024). For her work on Sinners (2025), directed by Ryan Coogler, she won the Academy Award for Best Cinematography, becoming the first woman and the first Black person to do so; she was also the first woman of colour nominated in the category. On television, she received a Primetime Emmy nomination for her work on the Loki episode "Lamentis" (2021). She is married to cinematographer Adam Arkapaw.
