Biography
Barbara Hicks (12 August 1924 – 6 September 2013) was an English actress. She was born in Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, and trained at the Webber Douglas School of Dramatic Art. Her stage debut came in 1948 at the Royal Court Theatre, Liverpool, in Written for a Lady, which transferred to the Garrick Theatre in London.
She appeared in numerous films and television productions from the 1950s to 2000. Notable screen roles include Mrs. Alma Terrain in Brazil (1985), Miss Avery in Howards End (1992), Flewitt's Secretary in Evil Under the Sun (1982), Miss Hartnell in Miss Marple: The Murder at the Vicarage (1986), and Second Woman in Orlando (1992). She was also known for work in Merchant Ivory productions and Agatha Christie adaptations. Hicks was married to Lieutenant Colonel Peter Taylor and was the mother of actor Giles Taylor.
