Biography

Beatrice Straight was an American actress who worked in theatre, film and television. She made her Broadway debut in 1939 and won a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play for her role as Elizabeth Proctor in The Crucible (1953).

Straight received the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance as Louise Schumacher in Network (1976). She appeared as Dr. Lesh in Poltergeist (1982) and had roles in films including The Nun's Story (1959) and Endless Love (1981). She was born Beatrice Whitney Straight in Old Westbury, New York, on 2 August 1914 and died on 7 April 2001.
