Biography

Ben van Os (1944–2012) was a Dutch production designer and art director. He worked extensively with director Peter Greenaway on films including A Zed & Two Noughts (1985), Drowning by Numbers (1988), The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover (1989) and The Baby of Mâcon (1993). He also collaborated frequently with Jan Roelfs.

Van Os received Academy Award nominations for Best Art Direction for Orlando (1992), directed by Sally Potter, and Girl with a Pearl Earring (2003). He was further nominated for a BAFTA Award for Best Production Design for the latter film. His other credits include The Libertine (2004) and It's All About Love (2003).
