Biography
Berkely Mather was the pen name of British writer John Evan Weston Davies. He wrote novels, short stories, and scripts for radio, television and film. After retiring from the British Army in 1959, he published his first novel, The Achilles Affair (1959), followed by The Pass Beyond Kashmir (1960).
His television credits include episodes of The Avengers (1961), Z Cars and I Spy. Film work encompasses the screenplay for Dr. No (1962), the story for Goldfinger (1964, uncredited), the screenplay for The Long Ships (1964) and the original story for Genghis Khan (1965), which he later novelised. He also contributed uncredited rewrites to other early James Bond films.
