Biography

Bernard Kay (born Bernard Frederic Bemrose Kay) was an English actor. Born on 23 February 1928 in Bolton, Lancashire, he died on 25 December 2014 in London. He began his working life as a journalist before national service and training at the Old Vic Theatre School. He made his film debut in Carry On Sergeant (1958) and appeared as The Bolshevik (also credited as Kuril) in Doctor Zhivago (1965).

Kay had an extensive career in television, with roles in series including Doctor Who (as Saladin, Carl Tyler and others), Z-Cars, Coronation Street, Foyle's War and Casualty. His other film credits include Witchfinder General (1968), Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger (1977) and Pierrepoint: The Last Hangman (2005). He also worked extensively in theatre.
