Biography

Bert Remsen (also credited as Herbert Birchell Remsen) was an American actor and casting director. Born on 25 February 1925 in Glen Cove, New York, he served in the US Navy during the Second World War. He began acting in the 1950s and appeared in films and television until an on-set injury in 1964 ended his early career. He worked as a casting director for several years before returning to acting.

Remsen played character roles in multiple films directed by Robert Altman, including Brewster McCloud (1970), McCabe & Mrs. Miller (1971) as Bart Coyle, Thieves Like Us (1974), California Split (1974), Nashville (1975) and A Wedding (1978). He also appeared in The Player (1992), The Bodyguard (1992), Maverick (1994) and episodes of Columbo and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. He died on 22 April 1999 in California.
