Biography
Billy Ray is an American screenwriter and film director. He began writing for film and television in 1994 with Color of Night and has since written numerous features, including Shattered Glass (2003), which he also directed.
Ray wrote the screenplay for The Hunger Games (2012) and the Oscar-nominated screenplay for Captain Phillips (2013), for which he received a Writers Guild of America Award. His other credits include State of Play (2009), Secret in Their Eyes (2015), Overlord (2018), Gemini Man (2019), Terminator: Dark Fate (2019) and Richard Jewell (2019).
He is also the writer of the upcoming films Animals (2026) and The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping (2026). Ray was born in Los Angeles, California.
