Biography
Bobby Watson, also credited as Robert Watson, was an American actor. Born Robert Watson Knucher in Springfield, Illinois, he began his career in vaudeville and appeared on Broadway in the 1910s and 1920s, including the role of Madame Lucy in the musical Irene (1919). He made his film debut in 1925 and played a range of character parts in the following decades.
After 1942, Watson was frequently cast as Adolf Hitler owing to his resemblance to the dictator, appearing in nine films in the role, among them The Devil with Hitler (1942), The Hitler Gang (1944), The Miracle of Morgan's Creek (1944), A Foreign Affair (1948), The Story of Mankind (1957), On the Double (1961) and Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (1962). Other credits include The Paleface (1948) as Toby Preston, an uncredited diction coach in Singin' in the Rain (1952), and The Big Clock (1948) as Morton Spalding. He died in Los Angeles in 1965.
