Biography
Bruce Bennett (born Harold Herman Brix, also credited as Herman Brix) was an American actor. Born in Tacoma, Washington, he was a college athlete at the University of Washington, where he played football in the 1926 Rose Bowl and competed in track and field. He won the silver medal in the shot put at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam.
Brix began his film career in the early 1930s and played the title role in the 1935 serial The New Adventures of Tarzan. He changed his professional name to Bruce Bennett around 1940 to avoid typecasting. His screen career, interrupted by service in the United States Navy during the Second World War, included supporting roles in films such as Sahara (1943), Mildred Pierce (1945), Dark Passage (1947) and The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948). He appeared in numerous television series, including five episodes of Perry Mason.
