Biography
Bud S. Smith (1935–2024) was an American film editor, producer and occasional director. He worked as an editor on The Exorcist (1973), sharing an Academy Award nomination for Best Film Editing, and collaborated regularly with director William Friedkin on six films including Sorcerer (1977), Cruising (1980) and To Live and Die in L.A. (1985).
His other editing credits include Flashdance (1983), for which he shared a BAFTA Award for Best Editing and an Academy Award nomination, The Karate Kid (1984), Darkman (1990), The Replacements (2000) and Ladder 49 (2004). He received the American Cinema Editors Career Achievement Award in 2008. Smith was married to dialogue editor Lucy Coldsnow-Smith.
