Biography
Candy Candido (1913–1999) was an American radio performer, vocalist and voice actor. Born Jonathan Joseph Candido in New Orleans, Louisiana, he began his career as a bassist and singer with Ted Fio Rito’s orchestra before moving into radio and animation voice work.
He gained attention on Jimmy Durante’s radio show with the catchphrase “I’m feeling mighty low”. Candido provided numerous voices for Disney films, including the Indian Chief in Peter Pan (1953) and one of Maleficent’s goons in Sleeping Beauty (1959). Other credits include the Captain of the Guards in Robin Hood (1973) and Fidget in The Great Mouse Detective (1986).
He died of natural causes in Burbank, California, on 19 May 1999.
