Biography
Carl Foreman was an American screenwriter and film producer. Born in Chicago in 1914, he moved to Hollywood in the late 1930s after studying at the University of Illinois. He wrote the screenplays for Champion (1949), The Men (1950) and High Noon (1952).
After appearing before the House Un-American Activities Committee in 1951, Foreman was blacklisted and relocated to the United Kingdom. He worked uncredited on the screenplay for The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957) alongside Michael Wilson; credit was restored posthumously. He later wrote The Guns of Navarone (1961) and produced and wrote other films. Foreman was appointed CBE in 1970 and died in Beverly Hills in 1984.
