Biography
Carmel Morgan is a British television writer. Born in 1965 in Oxfordshire, she moved to Liverpool in 1984. She previously worked as a Granada Television press officer before serving an apprenticeship on the second series of The Royle Family in 1999.
She wrote for Brookside (1999–2002) and contributed to the first series of Shameless in 2004. Morgan joined the writing team for Coronation Street in 2002 and has written over 200 episodes. With Cheryl Taylor she co-created the BBC Three comedy drama Drop Dead Gorgeous (2006–2007).
Her stage play Smaller, commissioned by Dawn French and directed by Kathy Burke, toured in 2006 before a West End run. Drop Dead Gorgeous won Best Comedy Drama at the 2008 British Comedy Awards.
