Biography
Carter Harris is an American screenwriter, producer, director and former journalist. He began his career as a reporter for the San Francisco Bay Guardian and wrote for publications including Esquire, The New York Times, New York Magazine, Rolling Stone and The Source, where he won an ASCAP Deems Taylor Award. He served as executive editor of Vibe magazine and was a Fellow in the National Arts Journalism Program at Columbia University. He is an adjunct professor of Dramatic Writing at NYU Tisch School of the Arts.
Harris moved into screenwriting after Michael Mann hired him. He has written and produced for television series including Law & Order (2006), Friday Night Lights (2006–2008), Lights Out (2011), Bloodline (2015–2016), Ballers (2017) and The New Look (2024). He received Writers Guild of America Award nominations for Best New Series for the first season of Friday Night Lights and for Best Dramatic Series for its second and third seasons, as well as a nomination for Best New Series for the first season of Bloodline.
