Biography
Charles Martin Smith is an American actor, director and screenwriter. Born on 30 October 1953 in Van Nuys, California, he began his career as an actor with a breakout role as Terry 'The Toad' Fields in American Graffiti (1973). He later appeared in films including The Untouchables (1987) and Starman (1984), and in television series such as The X-Files (1993) and Fringe (2008).
Smith made his directorial debut with the feature Trick or Treat (1986). He directed the pilot episode of the television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997) and went on to direct films such as Air Bud (1997), The Snow Walker (2003) and A Dog's Way Home (2019). He has also directed episodes of series including Space: Above and Beyond (1995) and received Genie Award nominations for The Snow Walker.
