Biography
Charlotte Riley is an English actress. She was born on 29 December 1981 in Grindon, County Durham. She studied English and linguistics at Durham University and trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.
Riley is known for her roles as Sarah Hurst in Easy Virtue (2008) and Catherine Earnshaw in the 2009 ITV adaptation of Wuthering Heights. Her other credits include Edge of Tomorrow (2014), In the Heart of the Sea (2015), London Has Fallen (2016), Peaky Blinders (2013) and The Peripheral (2022). She is cast as Queen Marlena in the forthcoming Masters of the Universe (2026).
In 2004 she won the Sunday Times Playwriting Award for the play Shaking Cecilia, which she co-wrote. She is married to actor Tom Hardy.
