Biography

Clem Bevans was an American character actor. He began performing in vaudeville in 1900 in an act with Grace Emmett and later appeared in burlesque, on Broadway and in light opera. His film debut came in 1935 in Way Down East.

Bevans appeared in numerous films, including Sergeant York (1941) as Zeke, Saboteur (1942) as Neilson, This Gun for Hire (1942) as the Scissor Grinder, Portrait of Jennie (1948) as Capt. Cobb and Harvey (1950) as Mr. Herman Shimelplatzer. He also played the neighbour of Gregory Peck in The Yearling (1946).

On television he appeared in episodes of The Twilight Zone (1959) as Pete, Perry Mason (1957) as Capt. Hugo, Bonanza (1959) as Jeb and Gunsmoke (1955) as Fly. He was the last surviving charter member of the Screen Actors Guild.
