Biography
Daniel Davis is an American stage, film and television actor. Born on 26 November 1945 in Gurdon, Arkansas, he trained at the Arkansas Arts Center and worked with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, the Stratford Shakespeare Festival and the American Conservatory Theatre.
He is best known for playing Niles the butler in the sitcom The Nanny (1993–1999) and for guest appearances as Professor James Moriarty in Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987), a role he reprised in Star Trek: Picard (2020). Other credits include Captain Davenport in The Hunt for Red October (1990) and the Judge in The Prestige (2006). He received a Tony Award nomination for his performance in the Broadway play Wrong Mountain (2000) and an OBIE Award for Talking Heads (2003).
