Biography
Daniel Olbrychski is a Polish film and theatre actor. Born on 27 February 1945 in Łowicz, Poland, he made his screen debut in 1964 in Janusz Nasfeter's Ranny w lesie while studying at the Warsaw Drama School.
He is best known for leading roles in several films directed by Andrzej Wajda, including The Promised Land (1975) and The Deluge (1974), in which he played Kmicic. He also appeared as Jan Bronski in Volker Schlöndorff's The Tin Drum (1979).
Olbrychski has worked with directors including Jerzy Hoffman, Krzysztof Zanussi and Claude Lelouch. He has appeared in more than 180 films and television productions, and received the Best Actor award at the 1971 Moscow International Film Festival for The Birch Wood.
