Biography
Jean-Claude Carrière was a French screenwriter, novelist and actor. Born in 1931, he died in 2021. He wrote screenplays for many prominent directors, including frequent collaborations with Luis Buñuel on films such as Belle de Jour (1967) and The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie (1972).
Carrière adapted Cyrano de Bergerac (1990) with director Jean-Paul Rappeneau. Other notable screenplays include The Tin Drum (1979), The Unbearable Lightness of Being (1988) and At Eternity's Gate (2018). He received an Academy Award for the short film Heureux Anniversaire (1963) and an Honorary Oscar in 2014, along with César Award recognition.
